Mary Nicol joined iLaw at the start of 2009 as a general commercial litigation specialist. After Cambridge University, she qualified as a solicitor in 1994 with Ashurst and spent 10 years in their Litigation and Dispute Resolution Department, gaining a wealth of experience in a wide variety of corporate and commercial disputes.

She has particular expertise in warranty and completion accounts disputes on share and asset acquisitions, including having been involved in the high profile case of Senate Electrical Wholesalers v Alcatel Submarine Networks and acting for Terra Nitrogen after their acquisition of ICI’s assets on Teeside.

Other areas of experience include tax, pensions, real estate and employment disputes, banking and insolvency litigation, some competition law and IP (having acted for Neutrogena (now Johnson and Johnson) in the groundbreaking passing off litigation against L’Oreal).

The breadth of her experience gives her a real insight into clients’ commercial priorities and an ability, in conjunction with her contacts at the Bar and with experts, particularly accounting experts, to offer a comprehensive dispute resolution service to businesses, including alternatives such as mediation.

She is a passionate skier, with a home in France, and speaks French fluently.
