UK is the sick man of Europe
A recent poll by Aon Consulting has established that UK workers take more falsely claimed sick days than any other major European country, equivalent to 35 million lost working days.
The poll questioned workers from across ten European countries - Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Switzerland and the UK.
The survey also found that UK workers are more than four times as likely to feign illness to get time off work than the Danish who were found to be the most honest. Just 4% of Danes took their most recent day off sick as a fabricated illness compared with 21% of UK workers.
On the other hand UK workers worked the longest hours in Europe. Notwithstanding this Employers are advised to tackle sickness and workplace absences from the outset and to implement good practice procedures to manage such absences in order to maintain productivity levels and send out a message to other malingerers.
